Spicy tuna tartare recipe
Tuna poke bowls are one of my favorite dishes to make. But I do switch it up a little spicy tuna tartare recipe. I like my tuna with a little heat, so adding some sriracha gives it the kick it needs.

This recipe is super simple and only requires a few ingredients. It’s also very healthy, packed with a lot of protein and healthy fats from the sesame oil and avocado.
Where to buy sushi-grade tuna?
Tuna is the main ingredient.
My favorite place to buy “sushi-grade” or “sashimi-grade” tuna is H.E.B. grocery store. You also can buy tuna at Whole Foods or a local seafood market/ local fish supplier.
Be sure to use “sushi-grade” or “sashimi-grade” tuna for tuna tartare. We are essentially “cooking” the tuna in the acid in the dish, so the highest quality of tuna you can find is best.
What is tartare?
Tartare is a dish of raw meat or fish. There are different methods and variations across all types of recipes. Tuna tartare is made up of raw tuna and a mixed sauce.

How to make spicy tuna tartare
Step 1: Cut the tuna into a fine dice, about 1/4″ or 1/2″ cubes, using a very sharp knife. In a small bowl, combine the diced tuna. Season it with salt and pepper to your liking.
Step 2: Then, add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil and sriracha sauce. Mix well to coat the tuna. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 3: To plate the tartare, use a plating ring or biscuit cutter. Start by adding a layer of diced fresh avocado at the bottom of the ring, followed by a layer of marinated tuna. Press down gently.

Step 4: Add your marinated tuna on top of the avocado. Press down gently.

Step 5: Garnish with green onions/scallions. Carefully remove the ring or biscuit cutter to reveal a beautifully layered Tuna Tartare.

Step 6: Serve with cucumber slices or crackers on the side for an extra crunch and freshness.
